education
We empower UCLA students to cultivate their futures in food by connecting them to advanced interdisciplinary course work and experiential learning opportunities.
Every year we face growing global food-related challenges that the field of food studies aims to address through education, research and community engagement.
Food studies is the exploration of food across academic disciplines, cultures, and communities on a local and global scale. Scholars in food studies pioneer new perspectives and system changes. At the Rothman Food Institute, we champion scholars and students who contribute to food studies’ expanding body of research, elevate food justice at all stages of production, and usher in a dynamic future of food.
Food studies research is advancing profound food transformation on a global scale. As an evolving field, food studies offers unique insights on human engagement and how we determine our future. Our students, faculty and surrounding community are contributing to the food studies body of research and leading us forward.
Our programs at UCLA catalyze students’ scholarly pursuits in food studies while preparing them to become agents for change and make lasting contributions that extend beyond the walls of the classroom.
