Atlantic Foodways: Culture, Science, Governance
Italy is a mecca for food cultures. In addition to boasting its own rich and complex food scene, Italy serves as a hub for the Slow Food movement and is headquarters for the Food and Agriculture Organization, recipient of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize. During this immersive experience, faculty and students share their passion for the importance of studying food in the context of history and global issues.
“Foods and food cultures are incredibly important and provide an intimate glimpse into how societies function, and what people value.
Getting to learn about food in Italy with the Rothman Family Institute for Food Studies broadened my horizons, and deeply changed my perspective on the importance of the foods we eat and the traditions surrounding them. ”
